Holistic Health Care and Education Center
Farmacy is a Community Health Care and Education Center. Since 2003, we have been offering free/ sliding scale herbal consultations and classes to our community.
In September 2008 our newly renovated community health and education center opened.
Inspired by the health struggles of Jessica Gill and Suzanne Hastings, a part of the center is focused on offering holistic-based support and information to cancer patients and their supporters.
We are not treating cancer. This program provides information and referrals to people looking to compliment their medical treatments.
The Care about Cancer Program distrubutes organic vegetables weekly to cancer patients at the Gloria
Gemma Center. (gloriagemma.org)

Care About Cancer Program
Jessica Gill, Summer of 2006
Our dear friend Jessica passed away of cancer on January 10, 2008 at the age of 33. Our center was inspired by her struggles. One of her last wishes was to ask her community to donate to the Jessica Fund (in place of flowers during her memorial).
The Jessica Fund was started by her close friends during her struggle with cancer. She requested that the money in the fund to go towards opening The Farmacy Health and Education Center.
Jessica's giving spirit is behind our project.
What is the Care About Cancer Program?
- All sessions with volunteer holistic practitioners are free and open to cancer patients and their supporters.
- This program does not replace standard medical treatments.
- We do not treat cancer.
- This is program is purely educational, focusing on referrals, classes, and informational sessions with holistic practitioners.
- During the summer months, we offer free veggies to cancer patients. These veggies are grown by Farmacy Herbs, Arcadian Fields, City Farm, and Wishing Stone Farm. The Vegetable distro happens on a weekly basis.
To become a Farmacy Care About Cancer Participant, stop by the shop and have a cup of tea with us, and find out if this program is right for you!

Become a Farmacy Volunteer on our Care About Cancer days!
Being a Farmacy volunteer means volunteering to support cancer patients once or twice a month (or more!). The volunteer practitioner group meets the last Sunday of every other month.
Our goal is to offer holistic-based information and resources to cancer patients, such as:
Information on Detoxification, Healthy Eating, Exercise and Lifestyle Changes, Herbal Classes, Reiki, Energy Work and Mental Health/Spirituality Support Groups, and all holistic supportive modalities.
Vanessa Jones on volunteering with Farmacy:
"Farmacy Herbs has become a place to remember lessons and learn many more. It is a place that reminds me of the goodness in the world, a place that allows hope to shine through the fear of compliance to a way of life that suppresses the soul. And it manages to do this from a little patch of green surrounded by concrete."

Introduction to Herbal Healing
This class is a great primer on the how-to of herbal medicine. It will give you an understanding of the proper preparation method of leaves, roots, seeds, flowers, oils, and tinctures.
If you have always wanted to try herbs, but don't know where to start, this class is for you!
This class is held seasonally and by request. Get together 3-5 of your friends and schedule a private class!
Community Supported Medicine (CSM)
In 2010 we will be offering an herbal medicine based CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture).
The goal of our CSM is to promote preventative medicine and educate our community on the everyday uses and benefits of the plants that are native to our area.
We believe that through a healthy lifestyle, exercise and the everyday use of herbs, we can support our systems and avoid falling ill in the first place! The proceeds of the CSM directly support The Farmacy Community Clinic.
Like a CSA, a CSM consists of individuals who pledge to support a farm operation, creating an investment in the farm, with the grower and consumer providing mutual support.
This gives the community the opportunity to share in the farm's bounty, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land and participating directly in food/medicine production. This philosophy will be applied to the herbal medicine produced by our Education Programs, grown on our homestead and on other local farms.
